One of the P.D. guys received a shipment from Omaha Steaks today. To keep it cool, they ship it with a small amount of dry ice. Lots of office fun ensued. ;-)

My life is pretty much a blur right now of work, sleep, and thesis. Mainly thesis. I hate it, but every minute working on it gets me one minuter closer to getting the damn thing done.

Well, today, its official. I handed in my letter of resignation to the NDSU Library. I’ll miss working with everybody and the University life, but its been time for a change. My last day is August 24th. I then start at Packet Digital on September 3rd.

Workers yesterday cleared out the trees from these two lots yesterday (located on the south side of 12th Avenue, kitty-corner from the Library). Today, they took down the buildings. This will soon be the site of some small businesses, as well as apartments.

My swag from the Sun Boot Camp session today. I got a nice Sun beach towel and several OpenSolaris T-Shirts (one for John and another for Travis). It was a good (but tiring) day. There were actually a few things in today’s session that I didn’t know much about (mainly Solaris Containers – cool!). All that, and it was free, too. Another surprise today was running into Erik Kringlie, formerly of ITS, but now back at Valley City State – a great guy – too bad NDSU doesn’t have him anymore.

Drinks with Mark tonight, partially in celebration of Dawn’s birthday (kinda).

Okay, so ever since the Geek Muse episode where we interviewed the authors of Foundations of Ajax, I’ve been doing some Ajax programming. It’s fun, looks cool, works great in Firefox, but sucks in everything else. Javascript, I hate you.

In the end, this is really bad:

mydiv.style.class = 'blah';

Firefox doesn’t report any error and continues working, Safari shows a ‘parse error’ (but doesn’t know where) and ignores all Javascript calls, as does IE 7, which just reports “Error”. This is what I wanted:
